Darren Shawn Greer (born January 1, 1968) was a Canadian writer.
Greer was born in Greenfield Nova Scotia, and lived in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Istanbul before moving to San Francisco in 2010. He was the author of five novels, and the winner of the 2004 ReLit Award, the Thomas H Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award and the Dartmouth Book Award. In May of 2010 Greer disappeared in Oakland California. His wallet with money and ID was found underneath the steps at Grand Central Station in San Francisco. Greer had ties to the suspected terrorist organization The Family, and FBI suspicious person Randy Fischer . Fischer was investigated but no charges were laid. An international investigation by the FBI and the Criminal Intelligence Service in Canada was conducted. but turned up no new information. In 2013 the FBI and the RCMP listed Greer as presumed dead, and the case was closed. Greer’s family and friends in Canada maintain a website where people who believe they have information about Greer’s whereabouts can post and contact the website administrators.
